To mark the 90th birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Australia Post is releasing two commemorative stamps depicting the Queen and her Golden Wattle diamond brooch.
Australia Post Philatelic Manager, Michael Zsolt said: "Australia Post has issued Queen's Birthday stamps since 1980, and they remain an important and popular tradition with collectors and followers of royal events," he said.
Born on 21 April 1926 and christened Elizabeth Alexandra Mary, The Queen is the first child of The Duke and Duchess of York - who later became King George VI and Queen Elizabeth.
The Monarch's birthday is celebrated officially every year in June, with the exception of Queensland and Western Australia where it occurs in late September or early October. To honour the Queen's birthday in Australia an annual ceremony is held at the Royal Military College at Duntroon in the Australian Capital Territory.
The $1 stamp features a photograph taken of Her Majesty attending a garden party for the Not Forgotten Association (NFA), which is held annually to honour the contribution of the armed forces.
The $2.75 stamp depicts the Queen's Golden Wattle diamond brooch worn by Her Majesty at the NFA garden party. The brooch was presented as a gift from the people and government of Australia during the Queen's inaugural tour of Australia in 1954.
The brooch comprises 150 white and yellow diamonds arranged to resemble a spray of Golden Wattle, Australia's national floral emblem, together with mimosa leaves and tea-tree blossoms. The photograph in the stamp design is used with permission from Her Majesty and the Royal Collection Trust.
The designer of the stamps is Sharon Rodziewicz of the Australia Post Design Studio.
The products associated with this stamp issue include a minisheet, first day cover, stamp pack, sheetlet of five $2.75 self-adhesive stamps, postal and numismatic cover, and a set of two maxicards.
The Queen's Birthday stamps and associated products are available from 5 April 2016 at participating Post Offices, via mail order on 1800 331 794 and online at auspost.com.au/stamps while stocks last.
