Jakara Anthony, Australia’s first-ever woman to win gold in the Freestyle Skiing Moguls event, will be the first Australian 2022 Winter Olympic gold medallist to feature on Australia Post’s Australian gold medallist stamps for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

Twenty-three-year-old Anthony clinched gold with a super final score of 83.09 after an outstanding run up, where she entered the finals with the highest score in the opening qualification phase.

Her win marks Australia’s sixth ever gold medal at a Winter Olympics and is the first gold medal won by Australia at a Winter Olympics in 12 years. It comes on Australia’s most successful day at a Winter Olympics after Tess Coady’s bronze medal in the Snowboard Slopestyle event.

As with the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics, Australia Post will celebrate each Australian gold medal performance in Beijing with a gold medallist stamp, produced within 72 hours of the medal ceremony taking place.

Stamps featuring an image of Jakara Anthony with her gold medal in Beijing will be available at participating Australia Post retail outlets, and online from Wednesday 9 February.

Australia Post Group Philatelic Manager Michael Zsolt said the gold medallist stamp program is an important way to commemorate the hard work and success of Australia’s winter athletes.

“We’re proud to recognise our Winter Olympic champions in this way and help Australians celebrate these remarkable athletes, who are representing their country and performing at the very top of their game,” Mr Zsolt said.

Australia Post was the first postal organisation in the world to produce instant stamps, at the Sydney 2000 Olympics, and since then has published gold medallist stamps featuring all Australian champions in every Summer and Winter Olympic Games.

Australia Post also celebrates Australia’s Paralympic efforts with a special commemorative stamp honouring the Paralympian of the Year.

The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games instant stamps will be available in participating Post Offices, via mail order on 1800 331 794, and online while stocks last.
