Online shoppers across the country are gearing up to bag Christmas bargains as Click Frenzy’s ‘The Main Event’ kicks off at 7pm AEDT on Tuesday night.
The 53-hour online shopping bonanza is Click Frenzy’s final event for 2021 and is tipped to be a big parcel week for Australia Post.
Australia Post Executive General Manager Business, Government and International, Gary Starr, said with more online retailers taking part in the sale and shoppers heeding advice to get their Christmas shopping done early, the sale event will be popular this year.
“In recent months over half of all households across the country (5.8 million) have consistently been shopping online, driving national online purchase growth for the 12 months to the end of October to more than 18 per cent when compared to last year,” said Mr Starr.
“From our latest customer research, we know this growth will continue with over two-in-five shoppers intending to buy their Christmas presents online this month, making November the most popular month for online Christmas shopping.
“Shoppers also told us that clothing and footwear, toys and books, movies and other entertainment items will be among the top items on Christmas gift lists this year, with specialty food, confectionary, alcohol and stationary supplies also likely to prove popular.
“Click Frenzy is the start of the pre-Christmas sale period and we’ve been working hard to ready our network. We’ve got over 45 new and repurposed operational and retail sites up and running, additional planes in the air, over 4000 new team members coming on board, and we’re delivering on weekends when and where we need to – all to ensure we can get parcels to our customers as quickly as possible,” Mr Starr concluded.
In the last 12 months, 9.2 million Australian households have made an online purchase, an increase of 3.5 per cent when compared to the previous year*.
Online shopping has been growing the fastest in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory with purchases up more than 42.4 per cent and 68.4 per cent during October respectively for each state and territory.
To receive their deliveries customers can take advantage of Australia Post’s more than 1000 free 24/7 Parcel Lockers available around the country, and can stay up to date with their deliveries with the Australia Post app. More information is available at auspost.com.au/Christmas.
