Australia Post is fair dinkum with the third instalment of A to Z Aussie alphabet stamps

Australia Post continues to celebrate the "fair dinkum" way with the third release of a quirky set of true-blue alphabet stamps.

Australia Post Philatelic Manager, Michael Zsolt said: "Australians are well-known for having a 'cracker' sense of humour. The first two in the Aussie alphabet series proved very popular and this third set is a beauty."

Each stamp in the Fair Dinkum Aussie Alphabet Part 3 is jam-packed with place names, products,

pastimes, lingo and unique Australian animals starting with a particular alphabetical letter.

Aussies are encouraged to grab a magnifying glass and have a crack at discovering how many hidden names, places and objects are to be found on each of the lettered stamps.

The stamps feature illustrations from Queensland and Bali-based artist Gavin Ryan. Collectors might recognise Gavin's artistry from the popular Road Trip Australia series of stamps issued in 2012 and 2013 as well as part one and two of the Fair Dinkum Aussie Alphabet stamp issues released last year.

The alphabet letters and some of the features for this set of $1 stamps are:

  • B is for budgie-smugglers, an Aussie colloquialism for a type of male swimwear; blowflies; barramundi; and a billy, a metal container traditionally used to boil water over a camp fire.
  • G is for Galah, a familiar bird seen throughout Australia and sometimes used colloquially to describe a boisterous person; gumboots; gecko; and gasket, a motorcar engine part that often needs replacing on long road trips around Australia.
  • J is for "Jillaroo", a term describing a female trainee on an Australian cattle or sheep station; jam; and jumbuck, an Australian term for sheep that features in the famous Banjo Paterson poem "Waltzing Matilda".
  • K is for Koala; kangaroo costume, for fun Aussie dress-ups; and kelpie, an Australian sheep dog successful at droving and mustering.
  • U is for Ulysses Butterfly, featured on a number of Australian stamps; uggs, popular comfy Aussie footwear; and umpire, the all-important referee in many sports.

The products associated with this stamp issue are a first day cover, stamp pack, five booklets of 10 x $1 self-adhesive stamps, roll of 100 x $1 self-adhesive stamps, booklet collection, postal numismatic cover and a set of five maxicards.

The Fair Dinkum Aussie Alphabet Part 3 stamp issue is available from 17 October 2017 at participating Post Offices, via mail order on 1800 331 794 and online at auspost.com.au/stamps while stocks last.
